The public is welcome!
February 23, 2012: The Wisconsin Supreme Court agrees to review the Appellate Court decision that denied the Rock Koshkonong Lake District's request to increase lake levels.
January 12th, 2012: By a unanimous vote, the Rock County Board approved an ordinance that sets a countywide slow/no wake standard at 7.5 feet in the north part of the Rock River and at 6.5 feet in the south part, with the dividing line at the Indianford dam.
This keeps the slow/no wake level at 7.5 feet, rather than the increase to 9.0 feet requested by the RKLD.
The ordinance will improve the situation for boaters because the level is a county-wide standard. Also, boaters can look at the US Geological Survey (USGS) website to see what the level is at the gauge on Lake Koshkonong near Newville (the gauge is at Bingham's point), and know whether slow/no wake is in effect. It takes effect at levels above 777.5 feet.

The Wisconsin Wetlands Association has a nice summary of the water dispute.
March 30, 2008 The Wisconsin State Journal has an article (offsite) about how Madison is considering lowering the level of Lake Mendota in an effort to save marshes and prevent flooding.
October, 2007: LKWA makes the final report available of its comprehensive vegetation survey and community quality assessment within wetlands adjacent to Lake Koshkonong. Download the wetland study (pdf)
The Rock-Koshkonong Lake District (RKLD) wants to increase the river and lake levels in an effort to improve boating and recreation. While we understand and sympathize with this desire, we are concerned about the potential adverse impacts to the more than 4000 acres of wetlands adjacent to the lake.
