Program Notes from January 22, 2005 Meeting of LKWA

The meeting was held at the Newville DNR station and was for the special purpose of assembling nesting boxes for wood ducks and blue birds. Public invitations were placed in the Edgerton Reporter, the Milton Courier, the Janesville Gazette, and the .

A heavy snowfall (6-8 inches) the night before kept attendance to 15 hearty persons, including 3 students. The event started at 10:00 am and after 2 hours we had assembled 50 wood duck boxes and 15 blue bird boxes.

A local lumber company donated the cedar lumber and another local company gave us a gracious discount on steel poles. Bill Bendig of Mud Lake Hunt Club, cut and pre-drilled all the lumber.

Happy, but hungry, we finished with brats, chips and soda and left to enjoy the snowfall.

Handouts about how to place, monitor, and clean the boxes were available

The attendees purchased some of the boxes and poles to place on properties in the Lake Koshkonong area. The remainder will be sold to raise funds for our efforts in education, research, and wetland protection. The wood duck boxes are $30, bluebird boxes $20 and poles are $10.

Respectfully submitted,
