The meeting was called to order at 6:10 pm by Rick Persson at the DNR office in Janesville.
Penny reported that our data collected for the IBA nomination (Important Bird Area) has been organized and turned over to Yoyi Steele for presentation to the scientific committee in early December. They will decide if we have enough data for designation as an IBA.
Penny announced the upcoming annual meeting of the Wisconsin Wetlands Association to be held February 2-3, 2006 at the Monona Terrace Community and convention Center in Madison. Thursday, Feb 2 are presentations and a keynote address. Friday, Feb 3 are more presentations in the morning and field trips in the afternoon. Of special interest to our members might be the field trip to the Cherokee Marsh outside of Madison. Restoration of this marsh includes the use of innovative structures to restore over 600 acres of "floating mat" wetlands.
Bill Hallstrom asked if LKWA would help with the Christmas Bird Count again. Interest was expressed but the date has not been set. It probably will be on January 31. Anyone interested should call Bill at 608 365-6432, or Email him at audubonman@aol.com.
We discussed plans for the nest box building session in January. Rick has the material for poles and enough wood for about 50-60 boxes. Bill Bendig will help cut the wood before the meeting. We also discussed making Mallard hen houses. Linn has plans for these. We will ask members to pre-order so we can have enough kits prepared.
Program: A video was played. It was the program on Outdoor Wisconsin with Dan Small, Rick and Penny on Wood Duck nest boxes. It featured LKWA and our interest in preserving and protecting the wetlands of Lake Koshkonong.
The will be no meeting in December.
