Program Notes from the Jan 23, 2010 Meeting of LKWA

January 23, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Newville DNR Station

We enjoyed our annual nest box assembly program with 13 persons in attendance.

Bill Bendig had pre-cut 15 wooden bases for mallard nest rolls. Our volunteers assembled the Mallard rolls using a double layer of coir matting (coconut fiber) rolled into wire mesh fencing. The coir matting and steel poles for mounting nest structures were donated.

When we got hungry, we enjoyed brownies, chips, candy, brats and hot dogs provided by chef Susan Yates. Her assistant, Kurt Buggs, grilled the brats to perfection.

Our next meeting is February 23 at 6:00 pm at the Milton Township Hall in Milton (23 First St). The program will be announced later. Linn Duesterbeck will review the care and management of mallard nest rolls.

We have an inventory of assembled mallard rolls ($40) and nest boxes for Wood ducks ($42.50), Blue birds ($25) and Prothonotary warblers ($20). Steel poles are $15.00.

Respectfully submitted,

Penny Shackelford
